Why Fjord Hütten?
July 10, 2023 by: Sarah Martens

"Why are you called Fjord Huts? Do the huts come from Norway or Sweden?" - We have often heard questions like this when we were exhibiting at trade fairs, for example. The main trade fairs in the event industry, with the "BOE - Best of Events" in Dortmund and the "Christmasworld" in Frankfurt am Main being of particular interest to us, tend to take place in central to southern Germany.
These trade fairs are attended by organizers, event planners, and employees from city marketing agencies, etc., with a large proportion of these trade fair visitors coming from – from our perspective – more southern regions or even from abroad. There are fewer “fjords” and “fountains” here, which are quite common in the far north.
So why is the "fjord" part of our company name? The origins of the Fjord Hütten company are not far from Flensburg, which in turn is located on the beautiful Flensburg Fjord. The German-Danish border also runs through the Flensburg Fjord. According to Wikipedia, the German Fjord and the Scandinavian variant Fjord are linguistically variants of the same word: "a usually narrow sea bay dug by a glacier tongue moving inland". From a geological point of view, there are certainly differences in how the Fjord and Fjord were formed - but that would go too far at this point.
The fact is: the Fjord Hütten company is based in the immediate vicinity of Denmark and the Flensburg Fjord. It was therefore obvious to choose this Scandinavian-influenced name, especially since we were able to supply “our first Christmas market” in Flensburg. In keeping with this, we also offer our market huts in the “Nordic style” – who doesn’t know the typical Swedish red from Bullerbü?
